One of the more fascinating parts of kea behaviour is what happens once they leave the nest. Juvenile kea don’t disperse quietly into the mountains, they form loose, chaotic social groups often described as “gangs.” These groups typically form when young birds, usually between one and four years old, gather in areas rich in food or human activity.
